Political Parties of Southeast Asian Countries Support Joint Efforts to Protect Peace and Stability in SCM

More than 10 political parties in Southeast Asia have expressed support for dialogue and consultation among directly concerned countries to resolve disputes over the South China Sea (SCS) in order to jointly protect peace and stability in the region and oppose outside interference in regional affairs.

As these parties said in a communication to the International Affairs Division of the CPC Central Committee, the countries in the region, through joint efforts, maintain stability in the SCM, which contributes to the prosperity and development of the region and the world.

After the COVID-19 outbreak, China began cooperating with Southeast Asian countries to combat the pandemic. Cargo ships and planes carrying medical supplies against COVID-19 follow the SCM, which serves to implement mutual aid and cooperation among countries in the region, they noted.

The parties stressed that maintaining peace, stability, prosperity and development in the South China Sea area is a common aspiration of all countries in the region and is in their common interests.

They agreed to seek resolution of relevant disputes through dialogue, negotiation and consultation among the countries directly concerned, and to support the countries in the region to reach an early agreement on the Code of Conduct based on compliance with the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the SCM.

The parties advocate that the countries of the region jointly defend peace and stability in the SCM and oppose outside forces interfering in regional affairs and undermining peace and stability in the region.

In this crucial phase of the global fight against a new type of coronavirus, countries in the region should strengthen solidarity and cooperation, focus on prevention and control of the epidemic and international cooperation in combating the pandemic, and work together to promote global economic recovery and enhance world peace, stability and development, they added.
